Vicar's Newsletter for 8th November

Dear all,

Sadly, our churches are closed again for 4 Sundays. The Archbishops have called upon us to pray and to face the current situation with calm, courage and compassion as all of us are asked to play our part in bringing the increased spread of the virus under control.  More information below.
Please do get in touch with me if you have any questions or just to have a chat.

SUNDAY'S ONLINE BENEFICE SERVICE  -
You will find a link below to a special Remembrance Sunday service complete with the Last Post, 2-minute silence and Reveille pre-recorded last Tuesday.  The order of service is a file attachment as are the words of the hymns (the file title for this is 'Remembrance music'), so that you can worship in song. If you wish your listening to coincide with the 11am 2-minute silence, please start listening at 10.53am on Sunday.

Prerecorded Audio REMEMBRANCE Service on Sunday 8th November:
This will enable you to participate in our prerecorded live AUDIO service (like a radio service). It was recorded on Tuesday.

Here is the All Saints Hunmanby website link in blue for Sunday morning - The service will be available anytime on Sunday.

SUNDAY 8th November AUDIO SERVICE -   You will find the service in two or three parts and no need to search for worship songs as these are already included in the service.

CALL TO PRAY FOR THE NATION

National Call to Prayer: the Archbishops of York and Canterbury and a number of other senior church leaders are inviting Christians across the nation to participate in the month of prayer during this second lockdown in England. Throughout the next month, we are encouraged to pray daily for a specific area of national concern, wherever we may be, culminating into a collective moment of prayer at 6.00pm each evening, with cathedrals and churches across the country invited to ring a bell (just one) at this time.

We are encouraged to follow a simple seven-day prayer cycle, praying for a specific area each day including the NHS and frontline workers, the bereaved, and those struggling with physical and mental ill-health, and for children and young people.

A selection of resources have been made available to guide our prayer during this period. You can find the material and further information about the invitation at www.churchofengland.org/PrayerForTheNation.

Please find here a link to the Archbishops' resources for praying for our nation at 6pm each day through these difficult times.

CHILDREN IN DISTRESS
The shoeboxes, blankets etc. were collected by the Children in Distress van on Wednesday 4th November, this collection had been brought forward because of the impending lockdown so apologies for anyone who missed the collection with their gifts. The van was practically filled with our collection and the driver had to go to Scarborough and Hull after leaving us and was concerned that he would be too full to complete his days collections!

PRIVATE PRAYER IN ST. NICHOLAS' CHURCH FOR GANTON PARISHIONERS
During the forthcoming lockdown from Thursday churchwarden Venetia Wrigley has kindly offered to open up St. Nicholas Church for private prayer by appointment at a time convenient to both parties. Venetia explains: "I will open the church 10 minutes before the appointed time, wipe down the door handle, ensure that a pew is wiped ready, leave the church, wait in my car until the prayer session is over and then return to church and wipe everything down again including the door handle and relock the building."
If you would like to avail yourself of this offer, please call Venetia on her mobile no.  07773 217372

SPRING CAFE CLOSED
Due to government guidance in lockdown 2 the Spring Cafe is now closed and will open again on 4th January 2021, all being well.
