Our Recent Vicar

Rev. Tim Parker (Now Retired - no longer with us)

I was born in Essex and grew up in Sheffield.  During my first term at university I came to a living faith in Jesus. After graduating with a Geography degree from Manchester University I spent a couple of years working at Lee Abbey in Devon before returning to Sheffield to work full-time as an auxiliary nurse at St. Luke’s Hospice.

I was ordained in Sheffield Cathedral in 1985 after 3 years at theological college in Nottingham. I spent 27 years in parish ministry in Sheffield, Rotherham, Leeds and Billingham on Teesside. Then for 4 years I worked as Chaplain at Harrogate and District General Hospital.

In recent years I have developed a keen interest in bird watching and photography. I am definitely a birder, not a twitcher (a different species altogether). The Greek islands have been a favourite destination, especially Kos, where I learned to sail dinghies and catamarans. For the past 40 years I have supported Sheffield United FC, an attachment that has helped harden me to failure and disappointment.

Over the last 8 years I have delighted in walking the fells of the Lake District in all weathers, staying in my small touring caravan.

When it comes to reading I confess to being a John Grisham fan. Force of circumstance led me to take up the guitar in 1987 (not for busking I hasten to add), and though not exactly accomplished I can strum a tune and will happily sing too.

My faith is Jesus is at the heart of all I that I do and I have a keen interest in the Christian healing ministry. I am excited to be working in the Benefice of Hertford and with others in the Scarborough Deanery and look forward to sharing with you in making Jesus known and advancing his kingdom.
